Frequently asked questions and their answers

What are your hours?

Our hours of operation are Monday and Thursday 11 AM - 7 PM and Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 11 AM - 5 PM. We are closed on Sundays.

How do I get a card and what do they cost?

Library cards are free and the procedure to get one is simple. Come into the library. We have a short form that needs to be filled out by you and we will need photo ID and proof of current address if not the same as that on your ID. There are some age restrictions for minors applying for their own card and those can be addressed by speaking to a staff member. That's all there is to it. We will have you reading in no time.

How many books and videos can I get?

The Evansdale Public Library does have a limit of ten books and three videos that can be checked out at one time.

How long do I get to keep the items I checked out?

If the item is a video or DVD you can keep it for one week. If it is a new adult book, magazine or older encyclopedia you get to keep it for two weeks and if it is any youth fiction, youth non-fiction, picture book or older (6 monthes or more) adult book, you can have it for one month.

I'm not finished. Can I renew the item(s) I have?

Yes. You can renew books and videos by calling us at (319)232-5367 or by coming into the library. Renewals can only be made if the item is not on reserve for somebody else.

What if someone has the book I'm looking for?

Reserve it. Let a staff person know that you would like to put a specific book on hold and you will be contacted as soon as that item becomes available for you. We reserve items on a first-ask, first-hold basis. Please keep in mind that if it is a very new and popular book, the hold list may be long. We will get it to you as soon as possible.

What if you don't have the book I need?

We participate in the Open Access program through the state and we can borrow any book from another participating library if it is available at no cost to you. We do have certain restrictions that may apply to use of this service. See a staff person and ask them to get a book through ILL (InterLibrary Loan) for you.

My book is overdue. How much do I owe?

Well, that depends. Our overdue fine on books is $.10 per day, not counting weekends. We also charge $.50 per day for late videos. The fine is automatically calculated by the computer when the item is returned. We do occasionally have fine free times when you can return any overdue items without receiving a fine. We also will never charge more than the item is worth. Please make every effort to return materials on time. Your fellow patrons will appreciate it.

Do you have a fax machine?

Yes we do and we do provide fax service. We charge $1.00 per page to send and $.30 per page to receive. Our fax number is the same as our phone number, (319)232-5367.

Do you have access to the Internet?

Yes. We have five public access computers that have high speed Internet access. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and if full, the wait time will vary.  Please check with a staff member for an exact wait time.   We do have an Internet Users agreement form that needs to be signed at the circulation desk by a parent or legal guardian if the user is a minor.
