Library Staff

Shannon Jensen, the director, was raised in Evansdale, a student of Jewett, Bunger Jr. High and a graduate of East High School. After leaving for several years to explore life and to get away from her dad's camouflaged truck, she returned to the area to take over the position of the Evansdale Public Library director in 1997.

She has a degree in sign language interpreting and is a big-time computer and other miscellaneous gadget junkie.

Shannon is married and she loves to read, spend time with her husband, her kids and her grandchildren, and says her iPad, Kindle and phone are her favorite appliances (forget the stove and microwave.)

She loves thrillers but says that Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is her guilty pleasure.  She loves to help people find new authors and says that reader's advisory is one part of the job that tends to get overlooked, not because it's not done because everybody talks about books in a library, but because it is not recognized for what it is: an integral part of library service.

Denise Rand, the assistant librarian, joined the Evansdale Public Library in September 2018.

She was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, spending most of her life in the Cedar Valley area. She has had an on and off relationship with books through her lifetime, but they remain a very important part of her life and she plans to keep it that way!
Denise most enjoys spending time with her husband, four children and two dogs. Family hikes in the summer are one of her top hobbies. She loves the great outdoors and of course books. Best of all is combining the two!
One of her favorite duties as assistant librarian, is providing outreach to day cares in the community through the "Ramblin' Reader" program. She believes that helping children develop a love of reading at a young age is very important in their development. Denise also finds joy in helping others of all ages to find great books and try new authors!
